This home is one of the three large residences at the top of Hammond’s Meadow in Montecito, CA. “When I first saw the house it was filled with fairly formal English furnishings from their previous life,” states interior designer Ann James. ” The homeowners wanted the house to be traditional, yet informal, welcoming and unique.
Her clients moved to Santa Barbara after spending 15 years in London. They searched the United States for a place to live and after an extensive search, settled on Santa Barbara. Their criteria was to live in a city that offered a variety of philanthropic organizations. Both clients are on various boards and give a great deal back to the community.
“Since it is a sizable house, it took us the better part of a year to complete because all of the furnishings were custom made,” James comments.
The client’s favorite color is blue which is repeated in various themes throughout the home.
Many custom details were implemented when designing the draperies and pillows, embroidered by Michael Savoia. James says, “He’s a genius. I turn to him when I want to have something with exceptional detailing.”
Furniture designer Blaine Taylor created many of the pieces, including the 4 poster bed in the master bedroom. “Blaine Taylor is a master furniture maker,” James comments. “I totally rely on him to execute my designs. His furniture represents the highest quality of craftsmanship.”
Known for creating exceptional homes, Ann James is a custom interior designer who has worked in the Santa Barbara area for over thirty years. Ranging from the latest in contemporary design to a more traditional approach, a sophisticated sense of style imbues each project.
