Refugio Vacation Rental and Cooking Classes

Located in the bucolic heart of California’s Central Coast wine country just six minutes from the Paso Robles main square, Refugio boasts two state-of-the-art vacation suites, plus a fully-equipped teaching/catering kitchen and expansive patio. Students at the classes learn to create fantastic food, savor award-winning wines, and meet chefs, local winemakers and food artisans in a convivial atmosphere.

 

 

REFUGIO offers a unique lodging and cooking experience in Paso Robles, California.

The spaces may be configured in several different ways, to suit culinary-focused visitors to wine country, or those who just want a serene spot for reflection and a base for exploring the Paso Robles wine region. The two completely separate and private suites at Refugio can comfortably accommodate one or two singles, one or two couples.

 

Refugio House
Rent the whole house on two-and-a-half acres. This includes an expansive patio shaded with pergola and market umbrellas, plus two immaculate and completely private suites, each with its own private deck and firepit. Rental of “Refugio House” includes both suites, the Kitchen/Great Room, and the patio.

Refugio is a contemporary Spanish-style guesthouse, a peaceful retreat, and a place to wind down with a glass of local wine on one of two private decks, or the large patio. Indulge your inner chef in your dreamy, fully equipped kitchen, or travel 6 minutes to the center of Paso and all its wonderful dining options.

Refugio is a “B and B,” but the second “B” stands for a wine bottle.

 

The Suites: BARN Suite & OAK Suite
Located in the bucolic heart of California’s Central Coast wine country, Refugio boasts two state-of-the-art vacation suites, each with private deck and fire-pit, exquisite Italian linens, down duvet and pillows, mini-bar, and luxurious bathrooms.

The suites may be rented singly, or together; one or both suites may be combined with The Refugio Kitchen; each suite is completely private.

 

 

The Refugio Kitchen

Return from the local farmer’s market laden with the fantastic bounty —vegetables, fruit, impeccably fresh fish, pasture-raised meat and poultry—and prepare to feast. Everything you might desire is at your fingertips in this fully-equipped, art-filled “home kitchen on steroids.” You are the chef and your canvas is ready.

The Refugio kitchen may be rented alone for special events, or combined with one or
both of the suites.

 

 

Site Rental for Private and Corporate Events, Dinners & Meetings

Rent this stunning, semi-professional kitchen for self-catered events such as birthday parties, cooking club meetings, or anniversaries. Or, bring your own chef for a winemaker dinner, team-building, or meetings.

Equipment: Two four-burner Gaggenau cook-tops, double Jenn-Air convection ovens, double-wide counter-depth refrigerator, ice-maker, 36-bottle dual-zone wine cooler, reverse-osmosis filtered water, restaurant-level overhead hood, and two dishwashers. Plus a full range of spices, Stonehouse California olive oil, vinegars, condiments, and non-perishable pantry basics.

Accommodates 12 to 15 seated guests, or up to 40 people with additional equipment rental. Per-night fee from $700.

 

 

Refugio Cooking Classes
Students at Refugio’s (approximately once-a-month) cooking classes will learn new cooking and entertaining skills from visiting chefs, and/or owner and local resident Brigit Binns, the nationally-known author of 28 best-selling cookbooks, many of them for Williams-Sonoma.

Her most recent cookbook, The NEW Wine Country Cookbook: Recipes from California’s Central Coast, celebrates the wine, food, people, and landscapes of her home town.

Brigit’s husband, Casey Biggs, is a Juillard grad and constantly-working actor and director, has a long list of film, television, and stage credits (including four seasons on Star Trek DS9). In 2011 he gained fame and notoriety as thePaso Wine Man in an irreverent series of videos promoting the Paso Robles win region.

 

 

Each class features several glasses of menu-friendly, limited-production local wines, introduced and poured by staff from the winery. Classes have featured wines from Tablas Creek, Barton Family Wines, Domaine Degher, Adelaida Cellars, Copia Vineyards, Ranchero Cellars, Windward Vineyard, and Baker & Brain.

Relax under a sheltering oak tree and gaze out at green and golden hills, olive trees, vineyards, and grazing horses, while sipping local wines and nibbling on inspiring dishes created from local ingredients. Savor the laughter and conviviality that are the natural by-products of living and cooking deliberately.
