Julia Mora Design is an interior design firm specializing in creating comfortable, inviting and peaceful spaces that reflect their clients’ personal style, the natural environment and Central Coast lifestyle. Julia offers clients custom designed furniture perfectly tailored for the spaces they love.
Before launching Julia Mora Design, Julia Mora was a senior designer under Brenda Antin in Los Angeles, CA. In business for over 12 years, she has completed many residential projects throughout Santa Barbara and Carpinteria.
Home styles have included contemporary beach homes, Hamptons, east coast-style coastal residences, California craftsman bungalows and Mediterranean estates.
“Many of my clients,” Julia explains, “have second homes in Santa Barbara, so they want a weekend house that has a relaxed, easy feeling… nothing too precious. I have been lucky enough to work with people who have trusted me to design their entire homes, sometimes down to the selection of bedding, or outfitting an entire kitchen, even the cocktail napkins. I guess you could say I’m a lifestyle designer.”
For Julia, having a vision is essential. “My goal with all of my design projects is to honor the architecture and style of a home, while incorporating my client’s personal style. I work closely with my clients to achieve a home that is a reflection of them; maintaining comfort
without sacrificing great style.”
Julia also feels, “Accessories are key in good design, and I often use vintage fabrics for pillow, found objects, and family heirlooms to make the rooms feel classic and timeless.”
Design Consultation and Furnishings
Custom Furniture Design
If there is a need for custom furnishings, Julia works with local craftsmen to create quality case goods and upholstery pieces at affordable prices.
Her furnishings feature natural elements of reclaimed white oak, raw metal, honed marbles, all of which create a warm and inviting environment. Upholstered furniture is often slip-covered in a washed linen or easy-care outdoor fabrics.
“I love mixing rustic woods with smooth surfaces that are easy to maintain and add a touch of elegance to an otherwise rustic table or desk. An element of surprise or blending unexpected surfaces and unique design accents create design challenges, which keeps me inspired… I’m always on the search for new ideas,” she explains.
Julia Mora is the in-house design consultant for Porch, a home and garden store in Carpinteria, specializing in rustic-modern furnishings and sustainable living. Her custom furniture line is on display and available to order in the Porch showroom.
