Santa Barbara's guide to what's new and undiscovered for home and garden, entertaining, style and travel. The resource guide below lists local happenings, boutique finds, travel destinations, food artisans and design professionals.

Jane Restaurant on State Street

This Santa Barbara restaurant provides quality American bistro-style food in an warm and inviting setting.Located in a charming, historical Spanish building, just two doors down from the Arlington Theater.

The eatery’s name is a tribute to Jane Moody, the matriarch of a Santa Barbara restaurateur family. Her photographs grace the walls and the menus and her name was given to her granddaughter, manager Jane Chapman.  The family also owns the Montecito Café, a longtime favorite with locals. Both restaurants emphasize quality, value and service.

“My family has been in the business for twenty-five years. My father is chef at both restaurants, Mom works at both places and my sister is a server while she is going to school. On any night we could all be in the house.”

Not surprising that their commitment and enthusiasm is what makes Jane a family-friendly place to eat.

Menu favorites include grilled breast of duck, seared ahi & prawn salad bowl, the natural hamburger and fish & chips. The Goat Cheese Pancakes with smoked salmon and caviar are crafted from a family recipe.

Main courses range from Grilled Duck Breast with seasonal fruit in a citrus and port reduction to Fish and Chips with chipotle ketchup and creamy dill dip. Popular Salad Bowls feature a variation on the traditional Greek Salad  that includes lamb sausage, and a seafood salad combines grilled shrimp and smoked salmon tossed with greens in a tarragon dressing.

All the burgers are made from ground, hormone-free sirloin and served on homemade sesame buns. Choose from offerings such as El Macho Burger, with Jack cheese, pasilla chile, avocado, tomato, red onion and chipotle mayonnaise, or the Big Blue Burger, slathered with Gorgonzola, grilled mushrooms and red onions.

Says Huston, “We want to give top quality at affordable prices. Everything that comes out of the kitchen is fresh and homemade.”

Sit outdoors on the balcony and enjoy a gorgeous view of the Santa Barbara foothills, or inside by the fireplace.

Bring your family during the holidays and start a new tradition of celebrating special occasions at JANE and MONTECITO CAFE.
