Micolyn Brown’s interior design projects are known for their relaxed, yet classic feel that capture the Santa Barbara lifestyle. Many award-winning properties have been restored under the watchful eye of interior designer Micholyn Brown of Santa Barbara Style, who has been in business for over 35 years.
Micholyn’s services go beyond designing interiors. She is actively involved in the architectural details in new construction, changes and solutions in major remodel projects, selection and coordination of color palettes from interior to exterior, and all finish products such as flooring windows and doors and hardware.
This contemporary house was recently built in the hedge row area of Montecito. The open floor plan flows easily from one room to the next, from indoors to outside with a sophisticated flair.
Micholyn designs attractive, functional bathrooms and kitchens, selecting quality hardware and finishes. Together with her team, assistant Jannelle Taylor and contractor Gordin Gibbons, they provide complete design services.
The house, designed by Neumann, Mendro, Andrulaitis Architects, feels distinctly modern yet has a rustic warmth in the finish materials and furnishings selected by Brown.
The general contractor coordinating the project was Rich Coffin and the gardens were designed by landscape architect, Jeffrey Gordon Smith.
The color palette blends seamlessly from interior to exterior, using soothing tones of gray and mahogany with vibrant color accents.
The process for the project, from start to finish, was a a rewarding experience for everyone that was involved.
Moroccan Modern…A vine-covered walkway leads to this secluded, two-story retreat. Large wood-framed windows allow light to stream through onto the white-walled rooms that artfully blend contemporary and antique furnishings, accented with decorative pieces acquired on the couple’s many trips to Morocco.
An open floor plan combines the living room, dining and kitchen areas and an outdoor area, ideal for entertaining.
The master bedroom and bath is adjacent to the living room, providing an easy flow to the upstairs living area.
A secluded guest bedroom suite with hot tub and garden is on the ground floor.
This downtown condominium was designed with artistry, painstaking attention to detail and enriched with a host of elegant standards and contemporary flourishes. Sleek custom cabinetry is combined with stone counter tops.
The space was designed for a couple who wanted to downsize to a more simple style of living, leaving the big house behind. It is sleek, elegant and easy to maintain and is within walking distance of downtown Santa Barbara’s shops and restaurants.
Micholyn is often involved in coordinating appropriate landscaping and outdoor garden rooms for her design projects. She takes pride in bringing all elements of design together to enable a project to reach its full potential. “Working together with contractors and architects in a cooperative manner is always the best way to have a successful project in the end,” she comments.
