Elizabeth Vallino Interiors Montecito Modern

Santa Barbara designer Elizabeth Vallino creates interiors that draw on all her experiences from living and traveling worldwide.  She is known for her ability to blend old-world elegance and modern, casual living and works with new construction, remodels, or refining an existing space.

“In my first meeting with Maurice Singer, owner of this contemporary home near Sycamore Canyon in Montecito, we talked about what he wanted to change about his existing ranch-style home,” Vallino comments. “He said he wanted more light, and he wanted to open it up on the north facing elevation to the view of the mountains.”

To this end, the homeowner and Vallino started thinking about adding glass and raising the ceiling in the main room. They decided to take out the wall that divided the two main living areas, and added a floating fireplace open to both rooms.

Once the fireplace was in place, the whole house started to open up to the outdoors, especially with the addition of large steel french doors at both ends of the living rooms. An outdoor fireplace and built-in bench was added, using the same material as the indoor fireplace.

A vignette in the  living room features black and white photography from Singer’s collection, including a portrait of artist Pablo Picasso.

The bright, white kitchen became a gallery space for Maurice Singer’s collection of exquisite black and white photography.

The master bedroom and bath are also modern and white with simple, yet luxurious furnishings.

In the end, the whole house was completely transformed.

With an education deeply rooted in classical Italian art and architecture, a modernist sensibility honed in New York City, and the soul of a southern California native, Elizabeth Vallino offers an individualized approach to each client, working within the appropriate aesthetic, budget and time frame.

Design services include space planning, kitchen and bath design, material specification, furnishing selections and art consultation.

“The focus of my practice is to evolve a backdrop for life to be lived well, with the understanding that good design can
change your life,” Vallino explains.
