Casa Acanto was featured in Architectural Digest April 2013 issue. The interiors are by the renowned San Francisco design firm of Fisher Weisman. The stone building at the front of the property was built in the 18th Century as a tannery and was converted to a residence and expanded over the following two centuries. The L-shaped building is laid out so that each of the 5 bedrooms includes a terrace, stunning views, light-filled spaces and privacy.
The entry hall with a vaulted ceiling and old stone floors leads to a custom kitchen with Viking appliances, marble counters, custom tile walls and cabinets made from reclaimed pine beams.
The house features tile floors throughout, ceilings with substantial pine beams and tejamaníl, extra-thick doors with planks of reclaimed pine.
Custom fireplaces with Cantera stone mantels are located throughout the home.
An adjoining breakfast room with fireplace and a secret door to the garage and an elegant formal dining room are part of the open floor plan in the main house.
There are two guest rooms in the main house, each with air conditioning and heat, heated floors in the bathrooms, safes in each closet.
The master suite includes a large dressing room (with a safe), coffee bar, pull-out printer cabinet, a study, a bedroom with large private terrace, and a domed and tiled bathroom. TV and air conditioning/heat are built into the bedroom desk.
In the casita…an outdoor sala, a guest room with twin beds and a full bath downstairs, a large guest room with air conditioning and heat, bathroom with heated floors and a safe in the closet.
The terrace on the second floor has a spectacular view roof terrace.
The sala features a discreetly hidden home theater, and adjacent guest bath with shower and additional sleeping areas.
The dining terrace that can accommodate 30 or more guests for elegant outdoor entertaining.
In the garden…
Casa Acanto sits on a large lot dominated by three mature jacaranda trees.
Cantera stone paving extends throughout the gardens and spectacular fountains add beautiful touches (and sounds) to the lush gardens. The gardens are dramatically illuminated for nighttime entertaining.
A wood burning fireplace with an Argentinian grill for cooking is located in the main outdoor sala as well as an outdoor fireplace.
A fully tiled, salt water pool with fountains in the corners…
