Santa Barbara's guide to what's new and undiscovered for home and garden, entertaining, style and travel. The resource guide below lists local happenings, boutique finds, travel destinations, food artisans and design professionals.

Botanik in Summerland

Located just south of Santa Barbara and Montecito in the beachside town of Summerland, botanik is a destination for home and garden enthusiasts and discerning designers. Set within the backdrop of a 1920’s Victorian, the boutique has garnered both regional and national acclaim for over a decade. The boutique’s interior and private garden abound with unique finds from all corners of the globe.

Botanik artfully blends furnishings with rare orchids, succulent gardens, outdoor furniture, boxwood topiaries, the latest garden and interior design books, candles, pillows, rattan furniture and unique accessories.

Erin Taylor opened the Summerland shop in 1998, establishing a loyal following of customers who embraced the design aesthetic…a relaxed style where every room is lived in and enjoyed.  Recently, Molly Hutto, who has been store manager for over 12 years, became the owner when Taylor decided to retire from retail and concentrate on her interior design business.

With a background in floral design and a lifelong love of gardening, Molly has been the creative force behind botanik’s popular succulent gardens. She has no plans to change the signature style that botanik is known for.

“My vision for the shop has come to life already. The interior of the shop still has the same classic neutral base with a touch of color here and there. “I like having a neutral pallet to start with and adding pops of color. I think it is an easy way to stay with the trends that come and go and not let the trends dictate your entire home,” Molly comments. “My aesthetic is very light, clean, and casual, using reclaimed furnishings and exquisite accessories.”

“In the garden, we’ve added a pergola in the garden for more of an intimate feel,” says Molly. “I am taking the garden from a nursery feel to a more outdoor living environment, with quality lines of garden furniture and seating areas that will inspire you to design your own garden room for outdoor living and entertaining.”
